IWIL President's Letter May 2026

5/5/2026

Spring across Illinois has a way of renewing our spirits, and this season is no different. Watching this organization flourish because of women like you is one of the greatest honors of my role.

May arrives carrying a calendar full of meaning. All month, we recognize Women's Health Month — a gentle but firm nudge to put ourselves on our own priority lists. You cannot pour from an empty cup, and the world needs you at your best.

Mother's Day on May 11 calls us to celebrate the women who loved us into leadership — the mothers, grandmothers, mentors, and role models whose quiet strength became the foundation we stand on. If that description fits you, know that we see you and we are grateful.

May 15, the International Day of Families, feels tailor-made for IWL. Look around at the women in this organization — the friendships formed, the doors opened, the encouragement freely given. That is family. That is us.

We close the month with Memorial Day on May 26, honoring all who have served this nation with courage — and remembering that among them have always been men and women who led, sacrificed, and persevered so that we might do the same.

Looking ahead, our Annual Social and Business Meeting on Thursday, June 4 at the Pole Barn Chic from 5:00–7:00 PM is an evening you will not want to miss. We will elect our new officers, honor our outgoing board, discuss an important by-law change, and vote on a dues increase that will help us sustain the scholarships and programs that make IWL so special. Head to www.iwil217.org to register today!

Every time we gather, we grow — and every woman in this room is a living reminder of why we show up. Thank you for being the heart of Illinois Women in Leadership. Your presence, your voice, your leadership and friendship matter more than you know.

Let's make May magnificent.

With gratitude and excitement for what's ahead,

Debbie Thompson
IWIL President
